The Valle d'Aosta in Italy.

The Valle d'Aosta is the smallest region in Italy and sits in the “heart” of the Alps, surrounded by the highest peaks in Europe (White Mount, Matterhorn, Pink Mount and Gran Paradiso), all over 4000 m in altitude.
This region is like a tiny island in the heart of the mountains. Over the centuries this characteristic has influenced its history, language, and administrative and political life, encouraging the development of a collective identity.
Thanks to this feature the region has obtained a special set of by-laws from the Italian Government.
