The Aosta Valley in Italy.

Aosta Valley is the smallest region in Italy and is situated in the “heart” of the Alps, surrounded by the highest peaks in Europe (Monte Bianco, Monte Cervino, Monte Rosa and Gran Paradiso), all over 4000m in altitude. This region is like a tiny island in the heart of the mountains. Over the centuries this characteristic has influenced its history, language, administrative and political life, encouraging the development of a collective identity.
Thanks to this feature the region obtained by the Italian Government autonomy and Special Statute.
Verrès in Aosta Valley.

Verrès is a small town in Aosta Valley, 39 km east of the city of Aosta, at an altitude of 391 m above sea level, at the confluence of the Evançon stream and the Dora Baltea river.
It is also famous for the Castle of Verrès, built by the Challand family between the years 1360 and 1390 in a strategic position for controlling the Ayas Valley.
The castle has a square layout and exceptionally thick walls equipped with slits and embrasures.
